Strategic Elements is proud to expand its award-winning team by welcoming Gustavo (Gus) Portela as Communications and Public Affairs Director, Ali Boettcher as Communications and Public Affairs Executive, and Abigail (Abbi) Janes as Associate Project Manager.
Gus joins Strategic Elements with an extensive background in politics, public affairs, and communications across the country. With over a decade of experience, he has served in numerous high-level positions, including as Senior Policy Advisor to the National Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce, Senior Press Secretary to the Mayor of San Diego, Executive Director of one of the most prominent political organizations in the country, and most recently the Communications Director for the Michigan House of Representatives. Gus’ extensive experience includes frequent appearances on national and regional media outlets.
Ali Boettcher joins the team with an accomplished resume in agriculture and political communications. She most recently served as Press Secretary for U.S. Representative Zach Nunn and previously as the Director of Public Affairs for Iowa Select Farms, Iowa’s largest pork producer. Ali also served as the Industry Liaison and Communications Director at the Iowa State University Bioeconomy Institute, head of Constituent Services for Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, and worked on multiple political campaigns. Ali earned her master’s degree in strategic communications from the University of Iowa, and brings a wealth of experience in public affairs, government relations, and political advocacy.
Abbi Janes returns to Strategic Elements previously serving as an intern for the company. Prior to joining the team, Abbi was a Marketing Production Associate, where she led client-based marketing, assisted with the company’s incentive-based programs, and planned company-wide events. Abbi is highly detail-oriented and will help execute internal operational needs and project management for the company’s wide range of high-profile clients.
